What about costs? Back to top
Heather Grant strives to provide an affordable service. Different rates are available:
- Project rates
- Retainer
The month-to-month retainer offers you a lower hourly fee based on a certain number of hours, according to your needs. The real benefit is that there’s no questioning Heather’s availability: she’ll be there for you. What’s more, the continuity enables a relationship to build that so that your ‘virtual PR’ really knows your business and its needs.
Retainer agreements are for a minimum of two months and can be cancelled by either party on two calendar months' written notice.
Project rates are for those one-off jobs that need to be done quickly and NOW!
They do attract a slightly higher fee.

What is copy editing? Back to top
A copy editor 'cleans up' writing - whether it's a marketing brochure or a doctoral thesis. Every word is read; every sentence considered.
A copy editor's checklist includes:
- spelling
- capitalisation
- punctuation
- grammar
- abbreviations
- word usage
- sentence structure
- continuity
- consistency
- voice
- factual correctness.
Is proofreading the same as copy editing? Back to top
A proofreader is used when the text is finalised and set out. The proofreader's checklist will include:
- spelling
- punctuation
- grammar
- page numbers
- cross-references
- telephone numbers
- addresses.
The proofreader will also check your documents for consistency in:
- numbers
- names/titles
- headings
- rules
- caption positions
- measurements.
The proofreader also looks at what the finished words look like in their format:
- Will word breaks confuse the reader?
- Do photos and captions correspond?
- Has the same font - typeface - been used consistently?
- Is there a lone word - or couple of small words - on the last line of a paragraph?
What is web content? Back to top
Web content is the information found on a website.
Basic content includes services/product pages, about us, contact details and an enquiry form. The way that information is presented makes the difference.
Many businesses make the mistake of using their websites to post printed brochures. Wrong! Why?
- We read websites differently.
- Unlike a printed brochure or report, web content lives: it needs to keep changing.
- Factors other than information need to be considered - like search engine optimisation.
- Good web writing blends professional writing with technical knowledge of the Internet.
Contact Heather Grant to discuss content ideas for your website.
